Color me skeptical!
Pentagon, Citing Fears, Plans to Shut Child Center
By ERIC SCHMITT

WASHINGTON, July 14 - With tens of thousands of American troops hunkered down on yearlong tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, the military is arguably not the most family-friendly employer these days. Now add this to the list that the Pentagon is closing its child care center.

(Cue that retarded kid dangling the banjo over the bridge as a warning to innocent vacationers!)

The reason?

You guessed it!

Citing intelligence that the Pentagon is the second most likely target for a terrorist attack in the capital region after the White House, military officials want to shut the day care building next to the Pentagon by the fall. LINK

Hm.

Let's do the math...

Prime real estate location

+ Republicans in power

+ Republican "family values®"

Why did I include Republican "family values®" in my equation?

From the National Republican Party Platform...

The family® is society’s central core of energy.
That is why efforts to strengthen family® life are the surest way to improve life for everyone.
We support the traditional definition of "marriage®" as the legal union of one man and one woman, and we believe that federal judges and bureaucrats should not force states to recognize other living arrangements as marriages®.
We rely on the home®, as did the founders of the American Republic, to instill the virtues® that sustain democracy® itself.
That belief® led Congress to enact the Defense of Marriage® Act, which a Republican Department of Justice will energetically defend in the courts. LINK

If you glanced at The WaPo's list of White House salaries yesterday (provided by a whistleblower, of course), it's easy to figure out that women in this government's power positions aren't rewarded by this Republican administration nearly as often as men* (*trans. white, politically connected). LINK

An administration as backside-backward as BushCo® longs for those happy days... when white men ruled the world, and women fought wax build up with paring knives and treasured each issue of Life Magazine...

What a day I had today!

Let's ask Lynn Cheney, working mother-of-a-working-lesbian (with her own special crosses to bear), where she turns for common sense women's issues information!

"At last, thanks to The Independent Women's Forum, common sense has found an advocate."
Lynn Cheney

Selected quotes from Lynn's common sense IWF site:

I need hardly add that conservative girls, religious or not, know that marriage and family are the heart of life. Without it, almost all endeavor is somewhat hollow and life is pervasively lonely (for men, too). If that implies a defense of the traditional bourgeois social order, well, it turns out that for all its drawbacks, most alternatives are worse.

Within the ambitious circles of the Beltway, the world of stay-at-home moms and families cutting costs to keep their kids at home seems very far away. But on Capitol Hill, even staunch conservatives now lead untraditional lives and have bought the politically correct line on day care.

Recognizing that there is no more important job in the world than raising children, these women have made the not-so-difficult choice of what is more important. It means setting priorities for both mom and dad, having a stronger commitment to marriage, and realizing that there is no greater reward in life than bringing up a child.LINK

Why is it that the Republican women who advocate a 1950's lifestyle for women are ALWAYS working women who can afford to hire a poor woman to raise their children and keep their homes neat, clean and organized?

All women working in the Pentagon will now be forced to find other arrangements for day care.
Fear® of an attack won't be the reason why.
