Black Smoke (Day II)

(AP Photo/Gregorio Borgia)

Is it my imagination, or does that look more like a concentration camp roof than the Vatican?

And what's the deal with the Custodians For Christ (aka the conclave) not being able to squirt a little oil in that damned stove to guarantee black smoke?

Yesterday, confused Catholics saw the initial puffs of white smoke and jockeyed for the perfect prayer position in St. Peter's Square in anticipation of being among the faithful first to see the new pope.

“"e bianco! e bianco!” “It’s white! It’s white!"”— rippled through the crowd. But the cries quickly gave way to sighs of disappointment as the smoke blackened. LINK

OK. So they had a little trouble getting the black smoke thing right on the first day.

Today, they surely got it right ...

"It wasn't clear. It looked white, then black, but I guess any amount of black means they have not chosen. It's disappointing," said Briton Justin Fox in the square. LINK

Time to Cop A Cardinal Clue...

Heavy sigh.
