President George W. Cheney

As the kids would say, "The Twofer Presidency is for real, Dude." Of course, we all knew it. It's no big surprise that Vice President Dick "29% approval" Cheney is really in charge; President George W. "39% approval" Bush is just the executive cheerleader and presidential seal stamper-in-chief. Evidence to that effect, however, has been lacking-- mainly due to our corporate-owned media's boot-lickingly astounding dereliction of duty to investigate the George W. Cheney administration and inform the public of ts findings.

Evidence of President George W. Cheney's self-proclaimed super secret executive power surfaced this week under most unusual circumstances: While lamenting his terrible, horrible, very bad "I shot a man in the face" weekend (in a taped FOX News interview), President Cheney allowed one question about Scooter Libby's Nürembergish nonsense defense, namely that Cheney ordered him to rat out CIA agent Valerie Plame's identity.

President Cheney alluded to Executive Order 13292, issued by President Bush on March 25, 2003, which dealt with the handling of classified material.

Wait! There's More!

This executive order was not a brand-spanking new one. BushCo took President William Jefferson Clinton's EO 12958 (from April 17, 1995) and added the words, "and, in the performance of executive duties, the Vice President."

Here's how it looked and how it now looks:

Clinton's EO:

Classification Authority.
(a) The authority to classify information originally may be exercised only by:
(1) the President;
(2) agency heads and officials designated by the President in the Federal Register...

George W. Cheney's EO:

Classification Authority.
(a) The authority to classify information originally may be exercised only by:
(1) the President and, in the performance of executive duties, the Vice President;
(2) agency heads and officials designated by the President in the Federal Register...

Here's where I ask myself: If, in March of 2003 when George W. Cheney was giving the Pentagon the green light to attack Iraq, why on earth would he/they suddenly need to amend President Clinton's EO pertaining to classified information?

And here's where I answer my own question: Ambassador Joseph Wilson, Stupid!

Legitimate legal scholars (not the fascist fundie types, please) will have to decide whether the executive order concerning classification also covers the undocumented power to declassify.

At any rate, it's now obvious that President George W. "34%*" Cheney's administration can never be called proactive.

Retroactive, yes. Reactive, yes. Radioactive, to be sure.

* Average approval rating for our co-presidents BEFORE Cheney shot a man in the face.

Since it looks like nothing and no one can or will get them out of office, I hope at least history books deal with them justly.

I posted this one yesterday as well. What Constitution? The 25th Amendment already covers the Vice President except in very unusual circumstances.

Once again, I'm speechless.
