Today's Sermon:
Happy Porn Sunday!

Yep, It's Porn Sunday!

Why, you ask, would church leaders show an R-Rated soft porn film today in lieu of their typical yawn-inducing sermons?

Over the last few months, all that has changed, as one church after another has held events known as "Porn Sunday," inviting Craig Gross and Mike Foster to screen their documentary, "Missionary Positions," and to talk about pornography and the problems they believe it creates in people's lives.

So many churches now have expressed interest in having them come speak, the two have decided to do a nationwide event this October.

Soft porn is certainly one way to fill the pews. But what's the rationale?

Ahem.

From Churches Confront An Elephant In The Pews...

In a 2001 survey published in Leadership Journal, 37 percent of pastors said pornography was a struggle for them, and 51 percent admitted it was a temptation.

Focus on the Family, a Colorado-based Evangelical group, was alerted a few years ago when its toll-free clergy-care line began lighting up with calls from ministers - and 25 percent were porn-related.

Focus on the Family has quietly spent thousands of dollars sending pastors to treatment centers.

Some say accountability could be carried still further. (Douglas) Weiss recommends an annual polygraph to verify that clergy are sexually pure - no pornography, no inappropriate relationships with parishioners.

For those internet savvy porn-lusting clergy...
